Widow
I made two rose-covered grizzly bears as symbols of mourning.
I was driving on the highway and I saw a dead bear on the side of the road. I started thinking about this bear and, in an abstract way, who loved this bear, who mourns this bear. I thought about how death leaves its marks on the living, how grief is a cloak, and that it is impossible to reconcile love and death. The taxidermy forms are covered in velvet, then roses which are hand-felted, hand sewn, and dyed with cochineal.
